YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball program has announced its 2017-18 game promotions schedule. The remaining 12 home games this season will each have theme nights designed to make students, alumni, and the community an important factor in the home- court advantage.
EMU's next home game against Oakland University, Dec. 6 will be an exciting one for the students as the new Student Lounge will be unveiled. The Student Lounge is open to all current EMU students and will have free donuts and coffee, popcorn, and drinks. Students will also have access to televisions and phone charging stations. Then during halftime, the Pistons Extreme Dunk Team will perform.
Before heading back on the road, EMU will host Head Coach Rob Murphy's alma mater, Central State University Saturday, Dec. 9. This will be Family Night were children have to opportunity to get temporary tattoos, balloon hats and animals, have access to the Fun Zone, and get their pictures taken with Swoop! After the game all kids will be invited down to the court for layups.
The first Mid-American Conference game of the year against Bowling Green State University will take place on Saturday, Jan. 6. With a myriad of events scheduled, it will be First Responders Night, Star Wars Day, and Ypsi Community/Taste of Ypsi Day. There will be free glow-in-the-dark Lightsabers given away to the first 300 fans. The 20 best Star Wars costumes will be awarded tickets to Star Wars: The Last Jedi. At halftime, there will be a basketball game between first responders.
New for 2018, EMU will run a special promotion during each Tuesday night home game called "2 for Tuesdays". The package includes two tickets, two hot dogs, and two drinks for just $22. The first "2 for Tuesday" of the year is against Central Michigan University, Jan. 9, as it will also be Faith and Family Night as well as a Tim Bond t-shirt giveaway.
The Eagles are home to University of Akron Tuesday, Jan. 16, for the inaugural Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration game to complete the special week around the University.
Ohio University comes to Ypsilanti on Jan. 20, during which EMU will hold a Last Day Dog Rescue Adopt a Pet event. A number of furry pets will be on hand in the Convocation Center that are looking for their forever homes. Additionally, there will be a special canine halftime show.
Plenty of electronic dance music and glow sticks will be found on Rave Night against in-state rival Western Michigan University, Jan. 30. Fans are encouraged to wear white for White Out Night at the Convo on another "2 for Tuesday".
Opening the February schedule, Eastern is home with Ball State University, Feb. 3. The doubleheader will feature a Craft Beer Testing and Play4Kay Pink Day. During the game there is a pink towel and bracelet giveaway.
The last "2 for Tuesday" specials are schedule for Feb. 13 and Feb. 20. The 13th will be Most Valuable Professor/ Heroes Night and Cosplay Night, where fans are encouraged to dress up as their favorite superhero. The 20th will be Special Olympics Night.
Saturday Feb. 24, versus Northern Illinois University will be EMU's last regular season home game of the year and will be Senior Day, Girl Scouts Day, and Mascot/Residence Hall Day.
Additionally, EMU will be hosting a "10K Putt" on select dates throughout the year with one lucky contestant chosen to make a full-court putt for $10,000. The contest will be run on Jan. 9, Jan. 16, Jan. 20, Jan. 30, Feb. 13, and Feb. 24 games.
