Mark Van Ameyde Leaves Position as EMU Baseball Coach

National search will begin for EMU's seventh full-time head coach

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University Vice President/Director of Athletics Scott Wetherbee announced today, Dec. 12, that Head Baseball Coach Mark Van Ameyde is departing the University for another coaching opportunity.
"I want to thank Coach Van Ameyde for his commitment and dedication to our baseball program during his tenure at Eastern Michigan," said Wetherbee. "We appreciate the work that Mark has done to help our student-athletes both academically and athletically. He has certainly left the EMU baseball program in a better place. A national search will commence immediately and I look forward to hiring someone with a strong work ethic and who is a relentless recruiter, as we look forward to competing for Mid-American Conference championships and a place in the NCAA Tournament."
In three seasons at the helm of the EMU baseball, Van Ameyde oversaw improvements in each season. He took over the program on July 15, 2014, and compiled a record of 70-106. In 2015, the squad posted a record of 20-35 (9-18 MAC) before a MAC Tournament Semifinals appearance in 2016 when the Eagles went 23-36 (10-14 MAC). Last season, the squad posted a record of 27-35 (14-10 MAC) and a strong postseason run for its first MAC Tournament Championship game appearance since 2008.
At Eastern Michigan, he coached five All-MAC honorees, as well as 28 academic All-MAC selections. Additionally, pitcher Sam Delaplane was selected in the 23rd round by the Seattle Mariners in the 2017 MLB Draft. Delaplane became the first EMU player since 2012 to hear his name called in the draft.
A national search to name Van Ameyde's replacement is underway.
