Softball Earns Recognition for Academic Excellence

The Eagles boasted a team GPA of 3.401
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University softball team earned recognition from the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Tuesday, Oct. 3, for its accomplishments in the classroom last year. Boasting a team grade point average of 3.401, EMU finished sixth amongst the Mid-American Conference schools represented in the rankings and 55th amongst Division I.
Notching the top spot within the division was Western Carolina with a GPA of 3.673, while Missouri State (3.648) and Alabama (3.657) both landed in the top three. Kent State was the only MAC school to break the top-10, holding a GPA of 3.568, 10th-best in Division I. Rounding out the conference's top-five combined GPA is Bowling Green (3.498), Western Michigan (3.497), Miami (3.475), and Northern Illinois (3.433), respectively.
Off the field, EMU landed 10 players on the Academic All-MAC team for their excellence in the classroom. The Eagles return seven of the 10 for the 2018 season, Haley Hostetler (New Haven, Ind.-Woodlan), Brandice Olmos (Riverside, Calif.-Grand Terrace), Angel Schilke (Saline, Mich.-Saline), Trisha Trujillo (Whittier, Calif.-California), Olivia Logan (Riverview, Mich.-Riverview), Nicolle Miranda (Wilmington, Calif.-Port of Los Angeles), and Alex Peters (Oscoda, Mich.-Alpena).
