Women's Cross Country Hosts Annual EMU Fall Classic

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team closes out its regular season competition Friday, Oct. 20, as it hosts the annual EMU Fall Classic in Dexter, Mich. This will serve as the last opportunity for the Eagles to gain experience before they begin the postseason with the Mid-American Conference Championship.

EMU competed well in the Nuttycombe Invite in Madison, Wis. last weekend, placing 14th with a team score of 403 points. Led by senior Jordann McDermitt's (Davison, Mich-Davison) 27th-place finish, the Eagles edged five programs that were ranked within the top-30 and jumped up to No. 25 in the most recent national rankings released by the U.S. Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Tuesday, Oct. 17.

This week, EMU will also see nationally ranked programs with a pair of Great Lakes Regional foes in Michigan and Michigan State. Michigan remains slotted at No. 1 in the latest regional rankings released by USTFCCCA, Oct. 16, but dropped to No. 10 in the national polls. Michigan State jumped three spots in the regional rankings to No. 3, and also rose to No. 20 in the national rankings. Along with the pair of ranked regional rivals, Eastern will also get a valuable taste of Mid-American Conference competition as Bowling Green and Toledo will both be in attendance.

Rounding out the competition this Friday is Cleary, Detroit Mercy, Illinois Tech, Kalamazoo, MSU Running Club, and Schoolcraft.

The women are scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m., while the men begin their competition at 5 p.m. Both races will be held at the Hudson Mills Metropark.
