Eastern officially opens the season this weekend, Oct. 15, at the Head of the Grand
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — For the second time this season, the Eastern Michigan University rowing team took part in a scrimmage against the University of Michigan. EMU and UM's novice teams squared off in a series of races Sunday, Oct. 9, providing the younger rowers a chance to get out on the water and compete.
"We are proud of how our first-year athletes handled themselves on Sunday in their racing debut," Head Novice Coach Julie Quoss said. "They showed a fearless attack and adaptability, both instincts that will take them quite far."
The novice fall scrimmage provided Eastern Michigan's younger athletes who are new to collegiate rowing the opportunity to gain valuable racing experience against an elite program. In all, 14 freshman participated in the first races of their careers.
