The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team will return to Allendale, Mich. for the second time this season, as the team travels west for the GVSU Open, Friday, Jan. 20.

Last week, the Eagles stayed close to home, competing at the Simmons-Harvey Invitational, Jan. 14, hosted by Michigan. Eastern had a number of strong performances on the day, beginning with freshman Brittni Mason (Richmond Heights, Ohio - West Geauga), who finished second in the 60m dash finals with a time of 7.64 seconds. Junior Jasmine Jones (Greensburg, Pa. - Hempfield Area) also found success in both the 200m and 400m dash, as she won the 200m in 24.50 seconds, while also taking second in the 400m with a career-best time of 56.14.

Sophomore Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind. - Zionsville Community) had a particularly strong day in the 3000m, as she clocked in with a personal-best time of 9:48.44 to win the event. Not only was her time a personal-best, but it was also the ninth-quickest in the EMU record books. In the 60m hurdles, junior Allyson Goff (White Lake, Mich. - Walled Lake Northern) secured yet another event title for EMU, winning the finals with a career-best time of 8.50 seconds.

Moving to the triple jump, junior Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia - Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1) took home the top spot, winning the event with a mark of 12.12 meters/ 39 feet 9.25-inches. Finally, sophomore Morgan Turner (Norwalk, Ohio - Norwalk) had a strong showing in the weight throw, posting a mark of 15.39 meters/ 50 feet 6.25-inches, which was the sixth-best in EMU history.

With two meets in the books, the Eagles still hold a number of top-50 spots in the most recent NCAA Division I Indoor Qualifying List, according to Track & Field Results Reporting System (TFRRS). Jones currently holds a pair of top-35 spots, as she sits at No. 28 in the 200m and No. 33 in the 400m. Junior Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. - Davison) dropped one spot to No. 2 in the nation in the 3000m, while fellow junior Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich. - Chippewa Valley) and senior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia - Lyceum #83) held onto No. 9 and No. 11 in the 5000m, respectively. Finally, Goff jumped into the top-50 in the 60m hurdles, as she holds the No. 48 spot.

Additionally, the Eagles also hold onto a top-15 spot in the most recent women's dual meet rankings from trackandfieldnews.com. The Eagles, who sit at No. 13, one spot behind No. 12 Iowa and one spot ahead of No. 14 Indiana State, are the top-ranked Mid-American Conference team, as Akron comes in at No. 23. When it comes to the rankings, teams are rewarded for taking dual meet competition seriously.

The GVSU Open is slated to begin at 2:45 p.m. with the high jump, followed by the weight throw at 3 p.m. Running events are also scheduled to begin at 3 p.m., with the 60m hurdles taking place first. For a complete schedule of events, please click here.
