ANN ARBOR, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team wrapped up competition today, Jan. 14, at the Simmons-Harvey Invitational in Ann Arbor. Eastern had a number of newcomers compete on the day, with the squad totaling six top-three finishes against a number of strong competitors.

Three Eagles qualified into the finals of the 60m dash, as junior Leighton Antonio (Hudson, Ohio – Hudson) won the prelims with a time of 6.92 seconds. Sophomore Tyler Underwood (Clinton, Mich. – Clinton) also secured a pot in the finals, clocking in at 6.99, while junior Brandon Bolden (Solon, Ohio – Solon) snagged seventh to also secure his ticket. Antonio matched his time, and his finish, from the prelims, winning the event in 6.92 seconds, while Bolden snagged sixth.

In the 200m, Bolden was the team's top finisher, taking fourth with a time of 22.80 seconds. Freshman Devonte Findlay (Lauderhill, Fla. – Blanche Ely) also had a solid performance, taking eighth in 23.53. Sophomore Tyler Underwood (Clinton, Mich. – Clinton) led EMU in the 400m, snagging sixth in a career-best 50.99 seconds while freshman Trevor Marcus (Dublin, Ohio – Dublin Jerome) took seventh in 51.54, which was also a personal-best.

Moving to the 600m, junior Tom Jozwiak (Southgate, Mich. – Thomas J. Anderson) brought home the silver with a time of 1:23.34. Freshman Dan Kuhn (Erie, Pa. – Harbor Creek) also finished in the top-five, taking fourth in 1:23.85. Redshirt sophomore Nick McFarland (Hillsborough, N.J. – Hillsborough) secured fourth in the 800m, clocking in at 1:57.73, which was a career-best, and redshirt junior Caleb Hess (Owosso, Mich. – Owosso) was just behind him in sixth with a time of 2:01.56. The Eagles had just one runner compete in the 3000m, as sophomore Colin Burdette (Hilliard, Ohio – Hilliard Davidson) snagged sixth with a personal-best time of 9:18.09.

EMU had a pair of hurdlers qualify into the 60m hurdles finals, as sophomore Frank Douglas (Mansfield, Ohio – Madison Comprehensive) and Findlay took seventh and eighth with times of 8.43 and 8.50, respectively. The finals saw Douglas tie for third with a time of 8.20, while Findlay took seventh with a personal-best time of 8.35 seconds. The 4x400m relay group of Barber, Marcus, Douglas, and Findlay had a solid race, taking fourth after posting a time of 3:29.31.

Sophomore Cameron Hart (Columbus, Ohio – Bishop Hartley) posted a third-place finish in the high jump with a mark of 2.00 meters/ 6 feet 6.75-inches, while sophomore Alex Jacobs (Dublin, Ohio – Dublin Jerome) took seventh with a jump of 1.70 meters/ 5 feet 7-inches. In the pole vault, freshman Colin Etchen (Edgerton, Ohio – Edgerton) posted a seventh-place finish, vaulting 4.60 meters/ 15 feet 1-inch, which was a personal-best. Jacobs also had a solid performance on the event, taking ninth with a career-best mark of 4.45 meters/ 14 feet 7.25-inches.

The long jump saw Hart finish atop the podium, winning the event by nearly a foot, posting a mark of 7.07 meters/ 23 feet 2.5-inches. Fellow sophomore Nick Herbert (Portage, Mich. – Portage Northern) also secured a top-five finish, nabbing fifth with a jump of 6.75 meters/ 22 feet 1.75-inches. EMU only had one competitor in the triple jump, but sophomore Micah Peters (York, Ontario – Vaughn Road Academy) finished atop the podium with a career-best jump of 14.55 meters/ 47 feet 9-inches.

Two Eagles competed in the shot put, with redshirt sophomore Zach Purcilly (Troy, Mich. – Avondale) leading the way with a sixth-place finish after a throw of 15.09 meters/ 49 feet 6.25-inches. Also competing was freshman Jannik Schmitt (Plymouth, Mich. – Salem), who took ninth with a mark of 14.11 meters/ 46 feet 3.5-inches. Finally, redshirt sophomore Austin Hazek (Medina, Ohio – Medina) finished eighth in the weight throw, posting a mark of 15.27 meters/ 50 feet 1.5-inches.

The Eagles are next slated to host the EMU Triangular, Jan. 28, after having next weekend free of competition.
