The top finisher for Germany was Tim Nowak, who came in sixth with 7614 points. As a team, the United States came out on top overall, as the men won with a score of 38,845 - 37,427, while the women came away with the 18,320 - 16,421 victory.

The Thorpe Cup is an international competition featuring the United States and Germany. The two teams are comprised of up to seven men and seven women who compete in the decathlon on the men's side, and the heptathlon on the women's side.

When it comes to scoring, the athletes receive a predetermined number of points based upon their performances in each of the events in the decathlon and heptathlon. Specifically, the top five men's and top three women's scores are added together to determine the overall team winners.
