YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team continues the postseason this week at the NCAA East Regional, May 26-28, down in Jacksonville, Fla. The Eagles will have a total of seven student-athletes competing in six events throughout the three-day meet.
The meet will kick off Thursday, May 26, with sophomore Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich. – Chippewa Valley) running in the 1500m run prelims at 5:30 p.m. as the No. 26 seed. Later that evening, sophomore Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia - Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1), the No. 48 seed, is slated to compete in the long jump, which will start at 6:45 p.m.
The following day, Friday, May 27, the Eagles will have a pair compete in the pole vault. Senior Ellie Braidic (Pandora, Ohio – Pandora-Gilboa) and junior Janina Pollatz (Grandville, Mich. – Grand Rapids Christian) will both take part in the event, beginning at 5 p.m. Braidic enters with the No. 28 seed, while Pollatz holds No. 31. Additionally, senior Sofie Gallein (Gits, Belgium – University of Leuven) will run in the 3000m steeplechase at 8:50 p.m. as the No. 16 seed.
The final day of competition will begin at 3 p.m., where Dreimane will also compete in the triple jump as the No. 36 seed. Then, based upon qualification, Cizmas may take part in the 1500m run quarterfinals at 6:30 p.m. Finally, the squad will have a pair of runners in the 5000m. Junior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia – Lyceum #83) and sophomore Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. – Davison) both earned top-20 seeds, with Bogdanova securing No. 4 while McDermitt holds No. 18.
