Gallardo Named MAC West Baseball Pitcher of the Week

The senior struck out 10 batters in his lone start this week
CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University senior right-handed picher Augie Gallardo (Hemet, Calif.-Hemet (Mt. San Jacinto College)) was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Baseball Pitcher of the Week for the period ending May 1 the conference announced today, May 2.
Gallardo dazzled in his lone start of the week in the 3-0 win over CMU, April 30. The senior went seven innings only allowing one hit on an infield single, while striking out a career-high 10 batters. It was the most batters struck out in a game for EMU since 2012. The performance earned him his third win of the season, and clinched the weekend series over CMU.
The veteran now has a team-high 55 K's this season, and his ERA was lowered to 3.81, good for third on the team.
It is the first career POTW award for Gallardo and the third for EMU this season, joining sophomore Brennan Williams (Commerce Township, Mich.-Walled Lake Northern) and freshman Davis Feldman (Warren, Mich.-Brother Rice).
Eastern returns to the diamond this Tuesday, May 3, with the second midweek contest of the season versus Washtenaw County rival the University of Michigan. First pitch against the Wolverines in Ann Arbor is set for 6 p.m.
