YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) –
The Eastern Michigan University baseball team used a walk off home run from redshirt junior Michael Mioduszewski (Dexter, Mich.-Dexter) to defeat the Northern Illinois Huskies, 3-2, on Senior Day, Sunday, May 15 at Oestrike Stadium.  It was the first walk off home run for EMU (20-30, 10-11 MAC) since 2012.

Mioduszewski was the star offensively for Eastern in the contest, going 3-for-4 with a pair of solo home runs.  It was his second two-home run performance of the season, and he is now second on the team with eight in 2016.  Senior Tony DiLeo (Rockford, Mich.-Rockford) tallied the other Eagle RBI in a 1-for-4 game, extending his hitting streak to seven games.

The Eagles were even more impressive on the defensive side of the diamond, as two pitchers combined to go the distance.  Freshman Tyler Butzin (Dearborn, Mich.-John F. Kennedy) went the first six, earning a no decision after allowing two runs on five hits while striking out five.  Junior Sam Delaplane (San Jose, Calif.-Leigh) got his team-leading fifth win of the season after closing the last two innings, sending down all six batters he faced.  After the third inning, the pitchers combined to retire 19 straight hitters.

The Huskies (21-29, 14-10 MAC) struck first with a pair of runs on a two-out triple, giving them the early 2-0 advantage in the third inning.  Eastern cut the deficit in half in the fourth with Mioduszewski's home run to right field, making it 2-1 after four.

Butzin recovered well after the third, retiring 10 batters in a row in the fourth, fifth and sixth, allowing EMU to tie the game in the bottom of the sixth.  After a double from sophomore Brennan Williams (Commerce Township,  Mich.-Walled Lake Northern), DiLeo came through in the clutch with two outs on a bloop single to right, tying the game at two after six.

The lefty starter faced the minimum in the seventh, and the reliever Delaplane went six straight in the eighth and ninth, keeping the 2-2 score into the bottom of the ninth, setting up the heroics.

With one out and a 2-2 count, Mioduszewski blasted a ball to dead center, and it carried all the way out for the walk-off solo shot, giving Eastern the thrilling 3-2 victory.

Eastern now has one more non-conference midweek contest, this time against Ohio State University.  First pitch in Columbus is set for 6:35 p.m., Tuesday, May 17.
