The Green and White will look to claim their 12th MAC title

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – After a successful regular outdoor season, the Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team will head back to Toledo for the Mid-American Conference Championships, May 12-14. The Eagles will look to claim their MAC-leading 12th title, with their most recent conference championship coming in 2003.
Last season, the Green and White finished second with a total of 128.5 points, while Akron brought home the title with 142 points. Overall, Eastern claimed event victories in three different events throughout the meet. Beginning with the heptathlon, Sarah Chauchard dominated the field, winning with a total of 5667 points, which was good for both a career-best, as well as a new MAC meet record.
Additionally, Victoria Voronko, who was named the Most Outstanding Track Performer, took home the 3000m steeplechase title after clocking in at 10:05.42 to edge out then-junior teammate Sofie Gallein (Gits, Belgium – University of Leuven) who finished second in 10:18.52. Voronko then went on to win the 1500m run as well, crossing the finish line in 4:24.70, which was just ahead to teammate Taylor Knoll.
The MAC Championships are slated to begin Thursday, May 12, at 10 a.m. with the women's hammer throw. The meet picks back up on Friday, May 13, with the second half of decathlon and heptathlon events at 10 a.m. Finally, the meet will conclude Saturday, May 14, beginning with the pole vault, discus throw, and high jump at 10 a.m. For more information on the conference championships, please click here.
