EMU won two races, and took second in their third

CINCINNATI, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University rowing team wrapped up another successful weekend of racing, this time at the MACRA Regatta in Cincinnati, Ohio today, Sunday, May 1.  EMU won two races while taking second in the third race of the afternoon.

The Eagles captured the Chris Swartz Cup when the Women's 2V8 boat crossed the finish line in first over three other teams.  Racing against Drake, Grand Valley State and Case Western, EMU took first place with a time of 7:05.0, finishing nearly two seconds ahead of the second place boat.

In Eastern's other two finals races on the afternoon, the Women's 1V8 boat took silver in the Grand Final of the J. Clark Wray Cup.  The Eagles qualified for the finals after finishing in second of the heat race.  EMU raced to a time of 7:07.6 in the morning heat qualifier.  In the final, EMU took second with a final time of 6:51.0, finishing behind GVSU by five seconds.

For the Varsity 4 boat, the Eagles qualified in the Petite Finals of the Tim Royalty Cup after taking third in their heat, finishing with a time of 8:10.6.  The Green and White bounced back in the Petite Finals, taking first in their race with a time of 8:12.6, defeating the next closest boat by about five seconds.

"The team raced really well as a whole with good individual results in each race, Head Coach Kemp Savage said.  "The four posted a good time in the heats and petite finals, but had bad luck in their heat draw. The 2V8 had a great win racing a tough race with Drake. The 1V8 had the closest race with a great showing against Grand Valley, but came up short. Yet, they did beat the ranked DII Mercyhurst boat. It was a great day with good races across the board. "

The Eagles are now off a couple weeks before participating in the CAA Championships in Princeton, N.J.  EMU will look to capture their first ever CAA Championship in the all-day affair, Sunday, May 15.
