WEST WINDSOR, N.J. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University rowing team wrapped up the 2015-16 season with a third place finish at the 2016 Colonial Athletic Association Championships, Sunday morning, May 15, at Mercer Lake. The top-three finish was the highest in program history.
The Eagles totaled 18 team points in their three races on the day, allowing them to finish third out of six teams. Northeastern University won the title with a total of 36 points.
EMU's best finish on the day came in the Second Varsity 8, where the Eagles took third with a time of 7:05.707. Eastern's First Varsity 8 boat took fourth place in their race, going for a time of 6:49.769 and finishing less than a second behind Villanova in third place. Finally the Varsity 4 boat took sixth in their race with a time of 8:27.180.
Individually, EMU placed two rowers on the All-CAA team for the second straight season, with seniors Steph Schlosser (Mason, Ohio-Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy) and Tauan Jeffrey (Columbus, Ohio-Fort Hayes) earning the honors. Schlosser was also named to the All-Academic Team for the third straight season.
"When meeting with the team last night I told each boat that this had the chance to be a great day in their life," Head Coach Kemp Savage said. "It wouldn't be because of where they placed, but that they gave all they had from start line to finish line and left no regrets on the water. The placement would be a result of that effort. All three boats gave that effort on the water and it resulted in our highest finish ever. This is a very young team and though we will miss our seniors, we are going to set more and more team firsts in the next four years."
