SYLVANIA, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – With 36 holes in the books at the 2016 Mid-American Conference Championship, the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team sits in second place with a 583 (288-295). Kent state University leads the way after posting an 11-over 579 (288-291) on the par 71, 6,712 yard Highland Meadows Golf Club course.
The Golden Flashes hold a four-stroke lead heading into day two, that total includes holding down four of the tournament's top eight slots. EMU is in second place followed by Northern Illinois (593), Miami (597), Toledo (600), Akron (603), Bowling Green (603), Ball State (610) and Ohio (621).
All five of the five Eagles are ranked in the top 25, included senior Brett White (Caledonia, Mich.-East Kentwood) who is in second-place with a one-under par 141 (66-75). The Caledonia, Mich. naitve posted a career-best 66 in the opening around to take the early lead, as he had six birdies during the round to shatter his previous low of 68.
Junior Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) notched a 147 (70-77) for a three-way tie for eighth. Sophomore Nic Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada-Highland Secondary) is tied for 11th with a 148 (74-744) and freshman Beau Breault (Howell, Mich.-Hartland) is tied for 17th with a 151 (78-73). Rounding out the EMU lineup, junior Jake McNulty (Port Perry, Ontario, Canada-Port Perry-VCU) fired rounds of 79 and 73 for 22nd-place.
Northern Illinois's Joo-Young Lee leads the field with a three-under 139 (72-67).
The third round of the 2016 MAC Men's Golf Championship will get underway at 8:30 a.m. Friday, April 29, with the final round scheduled for Saturday, April 30, at 7:45 a.m. For live scoring, visit http://www.golfstat.com.
