YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University baseball team mourns the recent passing of former outfielder Michael Sacha, who passed away Monday, April 25, in Nashville, Tenn. at the age of 30.

Sacha earned a pair of varsity letters for the Eagles from 2007-08. Playing as a pitcher and outfielder, he saw the most action in 2008, where he played in 19 games, starting 12 of them. That season, he hit at a .282 clip, in addition to notching five doubles and two home runs. His best game as an Eagle came against Ohio in 2008, in which he totaled four hits, all of them being doubles.

Sacha was part of the 2008 squad that won the Mid-American Conference Tournament Championship and earned an automatic berth to the NCAA Regionals. That season, EMU entered the MAC Tournament as the No. 2 seed, rattling off three straight wins to make its second consecutive championship game, a rematch with No. 1 seed Kent State University. There in the championship game, the Eagles pounded out 17 hits en route to a 12-4 win over the Golden Flashes.

After graduating from EMU with a degree in Business Administration, Sacha worked for Quicken Loans as a mortgage banker, in addition to a slew of other companies. Most recently, he worked as the personal assistant for internationally known musical artist Kid Rock.

Rock released a statement on his website, stating:

"I am beyond devastated to report that my personal assistant Mike Sacha passed away today in an ATV accident here in Nashville. He was a member of our family and one of the greatest young men I have ever had the pleasure to not only work with, but also to become friends with. I know I speak for us all in sharing my deepest condolences to his family. I cannot imagine how they must feel. Myself, the band, our family, friends and co-workers are devastated over this loss. We were supposed to be back in Michigan today, but I am going to stay here with Mike until I can bring him home to his family. We've already been contacted by the press asking if it was me who was in the accident, so I want to stop any rumors before they spread. I'm asking everyone to please respect our and his families' privacy in this difficult time. RIP Mike. We will never forget you, my friend."

In lieu of flowers, the Sacha Family has requested that people donate to EMU Baseball in Michael's memory.  Donations can be made by following this link .
