The Green and White return to the Midwest following their trip west

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – After spending some time out in sunny California, the Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team now gears up for a meet a little closer to home, as the Eagles will take part in the Jesse Owens Classic, April 22-23, in Columbus, Ohio.

While on the west coast, the Eagles had a solid three days of competition, participating in a trio of meets, highlighted by the Mt SAC Relays, April 14-16. Leading the way for the Green and White was sophomore Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia - Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1), who turned in a great day in the triple jump on the final day of the Mt SAC Relays. There, the sophomore posted a mark of 12.61 meters/ 41 feet 4.5-inches, which was good for eighth-place in a competitive field. Her jump was also top-50 nationally, as she now holds the No. 38 mark so far this season. Additionally, junior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia – Lyceum #83) took part in her first mid-distance event as an Eagle, running the 1500m in 4:22.63, putting her 17th in the 1500m run elite section at the Mt SAC Relays. Her time was also within the top-100 nationally, coming in at the No. 74 spot. Finally, a pair of Eagles also turned in great races in the 5000m, as sophomore Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. – Davison) and senior Sofie Gallein (Gits, Belgium – University of Leuven) posted times of 16:14.89 and 16:39.15, respectively. In addition to Gallein's time being a career-best, both were also top-100 nationally so far this season. Specifically, McDermitt's time currently sits at No. 39, while Gallein holds the No. 94 spot.

Action from Ohio is scheduled to begin Friday at 2 p.m. with the women's javelin throw and the men's discus throw kicking it off. Additionally, track events will start at 6:45 p.m. with the women's 5000m, and end at 9:15 with the men's 3000m steeplechase. On Saturday, the day starts with the men's pole vault at 10 a.m., and concludes at 4:05 p.m. with the men's 4x400m relay. For more information, and a complete schedule of events, please click here.
