Eagles Conclude Trip to California

The Green and White wrapped up their trio of meets out on the west coast

NORWALK, Calif./LONG BEACH, Calif. (EMUEagles.com) – After three days of competition, the Eastern Michigan University women's track and field team wrapped up their trip to California yesterday, April 16. The Green and White continued the trend of personal-records, as four runners in the 800m bested their previous personal-bests.
The Eagles only had one competitor take part in the Mt SAC Relays on the day. Sophomore Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia - Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1) competed in the triple jump, turning in a top-ten performance by placing eighth with a mark of 12.61 meters/ 41 feet 4.50-inches.
The majority of the squad rounded out their California trip with day two of the Beach Invitational. A trio of Eagles took part in the 100m dash, with freshman Jessica Harris (Slidell, La. – Slidell) leading the way, nabbing 10th after crossing the finish line in 11.93. Senior Aaliyah McKinney (South Bend, Ind. – John Adams) turned in a top-20 performance as well, placing 15th in 12.06. In the 200m dash, senior Iesha Hardiman (Santa Clara, Calif. – Adrian Wilcox) was the lone EMU sprinter, crossing the finish line in 26.19. Finally, sophomore Jasmine Jones (Greensburg, Pa. – Hempfield Area) led the team in the 400m dash, clocking in with a personal-best time of 56.43.
The Green and White had six runners take part in the 800m run, with sophomore Natalie Cizmas (Clinton Twp., Mich. – Chippewa Valley) turning in the team's top performance by placing 24th with a personal-best time of 2:10.78. Just behind her, junior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan, Russia – Lyceum #83) made her 800m debut, nabbing 27th in 2:11.01. Sophomore Jenna Wyns (Londerzeel, Belgium – Sportschol KA2) also had a solid race, taking 31st after clocking in with a career-best time of 2:11.77.
EMU also managed to take home the silver in the 4x400m relay. The group of junior Khadesha James (Irvington, N.J. – Irvington), Yeadon, McKinney, and Jones crossed the finish line in 3:45.41 to edge out the team from Marquette. Moving to the hurdles, the Eagles had two take part in the 100m hurdles, with both earning career-best times. Freshman Ayanna O'Neal (Cincinnati, Ohio – Withrow) crossed the finish line in 14.12 to take 20th, while junior Dayna Hurd (Carson, Calif. – Carson) posted a time of 14.54. Finally, senior Maya Carter (Racine, Wis. – Case) ran in the 400m hurdles, crossing the finish line in 1:02.15 to take 24th.
EMU had a trio of student-athletes compete in the pole vault, with junior Natalie Uy (Kettering, Ohio – Fairmont) nabbing 12th with a vault of 3.97 meters/ 13 feet-0.25 inches. Fellow junior Janina Pollatz (Grandville, Mich. – Grand Rapids Christian) had a solid vault as well, posting a personal-best mark of 3.97 meters/ 13 feet-0.25 inches. Finally, senior Ellie Braidic (Pandora, Ohio – Pandora-Gilboa) posted a vault of 3.82 meters/ 12 feet 6.25-inches. Rounding out the day, junior Megan Pendleton (Lindsey, Ohio – Woodmoore) competed in the discus, notching a throw of 40.97 meters/ 134 feet 5-inches.
After their long trip west, the Eagles will stay closer to home this coming week. The Green and White will head down to Columbus, Ohio for the Jesse Owens Invitational, April 22-23.
