NORWALK, Calif./LONG BEACH, Calif. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team wrapped up their time in California yesterday, April 16. Like they had done all week, the Eagles turned in another solid day, nabbing two more podium finishes.
In the Mt SAC Relays, the Eagles took part in two events on the day. Junior Tyler Brown (Findlay, Ohio – Findlay) had a fantastic race in the 400m dash, clocking in at 46.95 to take home the bronze. In the 4x100m relay, the Eagles managed to finish with a time of 40.82.
Moving to the Beach Invitational, sophomore Brandon Bolen (Solon, Ohio – Solon) took part in both the 100m dash and the 200m dash, turning in times of 10.97 and 22.06, respectively. Freshman Aitor Ekobo (Madrid, Spain - Jose Luis Lopez Aranguren Secondary School) also ran in the 200m dash, posting a time of 22.21. Senior Mason Waynes (Kenosha, Wis. – Bradford) led Eastern in the 400m dash, turning in a top-20 finish by placing 15th with a career-best time of 48.06.
In the 800m run, senior Scott Bradley (Battle Creek, Mich. – Lakeview) posted a top-10 finish, taking eighth after crossing the finish line in 1:50.69. Moving to the 1500m run, redshirt sophomore Kieran Reilly (Dover, Great Britain - Dover Grammar School for Boys) finished 12th, clocking in with a personal-best time of 3:51.95, while fellow redshirt sophomore Mitch Lenneman (River Falls, Wis. – River Falls) turned in a time of 3:54.55
Senior Jeff Elam (Latrobe, Pa. – Grater Latrobe Senior) continued his fantastic trip, taking the silver in the 400m hurdles with a time of 52.26. Also running in the race was sophomore Mark Cooke (Edison, N.J. – John P. Stevens), who finished the race in 54.57.
Freshman Cameron Hart (Columbus, Ohio – Bishop Hartley) represented EMU in both the high jump and the long jump, placing ninth and 14th. The Columbus, Ohio native posted marks of 2.05 meters/ 6 feet 8.75-inches, which was a personal-best, and 7.05 meters/ 23 feet 1.75-inches, respectively. Finally, junior Quinn Levering (Caledonia, Ohio – River Valley) took part in the shot put and the discus. Placing 14th in the shot put, Levering finished with a throw of 16.40 meters/ 53 feet 9.75-inches. In the discus, the junior finished with a mark of 45.19 meters/ 148 feet 3-inches.
After traveling across the country for this week's meets, the Eagles will be much closer to home next week. The Green and White will next head down to Columbus, Ohio for the Jesse Owens Invitational, April 22-23.
