The Eagles posted a 2-3 record at the College of Charleston Invitational, March 18-20
CHARLESTON, S.C. (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University softball team closed out the weekend at the College of Charleston Invitational Sunday, March 20, versus the RedHawks of the University of Miami in a non-conference tilt. In a game that featured an hour long rain delay, the Eagles (9-14) registered just one run on six hits, allowing Miami (13-11) to take the game, 8-1.
Tossing 3.2 innings and giving up seven runs on 11 hits, junior Abbie Minsker (Howell, Mich.-Hartland) came away with the loss. Sophomore Trisha Trujillo (Whittier, Calif.-California) pitched 2.1 innings in relief, allowing one run on two hits while striking out three.
At the plate, junior Michelle Kriegshauser (New Lenox, Ill.-Lincoln Way Central) and freshman Lucy Lopez (Ventura, Calif.-Stockdale) registered multi-hit games. Kriegshauser finished the day 2-for-3 with an RBI and a double while Lopez went 2-for-4 and scored the Eagles' lone run.
Kriegshauser's RBI-single in the top of the first put the Eagles on the scoreboard early but Miami plated two in the bottom half of the frame to take a 2-1 lead.
Over the next two and a half innings, the teams combined for just on hit, leaving the score 2-1 in favor of the RedHawks before Miami recorded a five-run fourth off of seven hits. The five-run frame extended MU's lead to 7-1 with the Eagles coming to bat in the fifth.
Freshman Olivia Logan (Riverview, Mich.-Riverview) was hit by a pitch after a two-out single by Lopez but the duo was left on base after a groundout ended the Eagles' threat.
Facing a seven-run deficit after the RedHawks added a run in the fifth, the Green and White mustered just one hit. Unable to piece together a comeback, Eastern fell, 8-1, in its final game of the weekend.
Next up for the Eagles is a trip to South Bend, Ind. Tuesday, March 22. There, the Green and White will take on No. 23 Notre Dame. First pitch at Melissa Cook Stadium is set for 5 p.m.
