Klara Supejova was the lone Eagle to pick up a point

IOWA CITY, Iowa (EMUEagles.com) - Eastern Michigan University's tennis team competed for the second-straight day as the Eagles (2-5) were knocked off by Marquette University in Iowa City, Iowa. The Golden Eagles took down EMU, 6-1, after winning the doubles point, they took 5-of-6 singles contests.

In doubles play, the No. 2 duo of Ani Gogvadze and Marie Mayerova came away victorious, defeating Diana Tokar and Leoni Daems, 6-3, while the two other doubles squads fell, including a tiebreaker loss at No. 1. Andrea Martinovska and Klara Supejova gave Silvia Ambrosio and Erin Gebes all they could handle but came away losers of a 7-6 (7), decision.

Moving on to singles play, the Eastern Michigan continued to struggle, dropping five of the matches. The lone bright spot for EMU was when Supejova got revenge on Ambrosio for her doubles loss. The senior knocked off Ambrosio in two sets, 7-6, 7-5. Martinovska was the only Eagle to win a set in singles play, falling in three sets at No. 4, 6-3, 5-7, 1-0 (8), to Tokar.

"Tough loss to a good Marquette team today," stated Head Coach Ryan Ray. "The doubles point was pretty crucial, as it came down to a close tiebreak at No. 1. We didn't play our best today, but the way we carry ourselves mentally, and the fight we are showing, will pay off in the future."

The Green and White continue the season by hosting a pair of matches next weekend. EMU will first take on Xavier Friday, Feb. 12, at 1 p.m. before welcoming Wake Forest to the Chippewa Racquet Club Saturday, Feb. 13, at 5 p.m.
