Four Eagles Named to All-MAC First Team

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Following their runner-up finish at the Mid-American Conference Indoor Championships, Feb. 26-27, the MAC office announced that four Eastern Michigan University men's track and field team members were named All-MAC First Team for their performance at the conference championship. Additionally, six Eagles were named to the All-MAC Second Team.
Leading the way on the first team is junior Tyler Brown (Findlay, Ohio - Findlay), who took home a pair of event titles on the weekend. Brown was crowned the MAC Champion in both the 400m and the long jump after posting marks of 47.24 and 7.61 meters/ 24 feet 11.75-inches, which was a career-best and the second-best in program history. Additionally, the junior also took home a second-place finish in the 200m. Redshirt junior Willy Fink (Maumee, Ohio - Maumee) won two events as well, taking home gold in the 3000m and the 5000m. Fink led the team to a sweep in both events, where he clocked in at 8:14.63 and 14:32.74, respectively.
Also nabbing a first-team spot was redshirt junior Anthony Jones (Sandusky, Ohio - Sandusky). Jones dominated the field in the weight throw, taking the title with a mark of 21.48 meters/ 70 feet 5.75-inches. His mark was nearly three feet better than the second-place finisher from Central Michigan. The final Eagle on the first-team is redshirt senior Solomon Simmons (Murrieta, Calif. - Murrieta Valley), who took gold in the heptathlon. Simmons had an incredible two-day strech in the event, finishing with a total of 5608 points, which was a new EMU record.

Senior Scott Bradley (Battle Creek, Mich. - Lakeview) finished second in the 800m run, crossing the finish line in a career-best 1:49.70. Redshirt sophomore Mitch Lenneman (River Falls, Wis. - River Falls) earned the honor after taking silver in the 3000m, posting a personal-best time of 8:17.73. Rounding out the runners earning the honor was redshirt sophomore Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland - Mountain Ridge). Andresson crossed the finish line less than a second after Fink in the 5000m to take silver.
Also earning second team honors was a trio who ran legs in the 4x400m relay. The group of seniors Jeff Elam (Latrobe, Pa. - Greater Latrobe Senior), Matthew Williams (Moreno Valley, Calif. - Vista Del Lago), and Mason Waynes (Kenosha, Wis. - Bradford) all earned the honor after finishing second in 3:09.57, putting them fifth in the EMU record books.
The Eagles now have a break until the start of the outdoor season, March 25. However, before that date, select individuals may travel to Birmingham, Ala. for the NCAA Indoor Championships, March 11-12.
