Lee Ping Posts Third Career Top-10 Showing at Rio Verde Invite

RIO VERDE, Ariz. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University senior women's golfer Karyn Lee Ping (Brampton, Ontario, Canada-St. Augustine Secondary School) tied for sixth and helped the Eastern Michigan University women's golf team to a tie for fifth-place Sunday, Feb. 28, at the Rio Verde Invitational on the par 71, 6,215-yard White Wing Course. Lee Ping, who turned in her third top-10 performance of her career, shot a season-low 221 (74-72-75).
As a team, the Eagles played very consistently each day to finish with a three-day total of 900 (300-300-300). The rounds of 300 were tied for the team's seventh-best rounds of the 2015-16 campaign. Mid-American Conference foe Toledo won the tournament with a 885 as Wichita State, UMKC, and Missouri State finished 11 shots back at 896.
Junior Kelsey Murphy (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) followed Lee Ping, posting a 223 (73-76-74) for 11th-place. Sophomore Thelma Beck (Baden, France-Lycee Sainte Anne) was third for the Eagles recording a final round 75 giving her a three-round score of 226 (76-75-75). Rounding out the scoring for EMU was senior Lauren Stephens (Dublin, Ohio-Coffman-Toledo) and freshman Kritsuda Apiwatthanadol (Bangkok, Thailand-Somtawin Witead Suska Huaymongkhon School) who finished tied for 50th and 62nd, respectively.
Xavier's Hanna Lee finished the event at one-over par 217 (71-70-76) to take home for medalist honors.
Freshman Penelope Guilleux (Saint Maur Des Fosse, France-Arsonval) also competed this weekend at the Quail Run JV Invitational. Guilleux registered a six-over par 148 (74-74).
EMU travels next to Augusta, Ga. for the 3M Jaguar Intercollegiate, March 11-13.
