SYRACUSE, N.Y. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team dropped its second in a row Monday, Dec. 19, when it traveled to Syracuse University. The Eagles (6-5) fell, 105-57, on the road, as the Orange (7-4) were on fire from everywhere on the floor, shooting 58.7 percent from the field, and 53.6 percent from beyond the arc.

Redshirt sophomore Jordan Nobles (Canton, Mich.-Canton) led the Green and White by posting his first career double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds on 5-of-11 shooting. Seniors Quaran Jones (Fargo, N.D.-Ecorse (Findlay)) and Willie Mangum IV (Richmond, Va.-Marshall (San Jacinto College)) were the only other Eagles in double figures, pouring in 12 and 10 points, respectively. For Jones, the 12 points were a career-best since donning the EMU Green and White. Throughout the game, Eastern shot just 34.8 percent from the floor, while connecting on 19.2 percent of its three-point opportunities.

The Eagles struggled on both ends of the floor to open up the contest, after the two squads traded buckets, the Orange reeled off a 15-2 run, taking a 17-4 lead with 12:49 to go in the game. Baylee Steele (Norwalk, Iowa-Norwalk (Des Moines Area C.C.)) stopped the bleeding for a moment with an elbow jumper, but Syracuse's offense continued to roll with another strong run of 9-2, giving Cuse an 18-point, 26-8, lead.

Over the final nine minutes of the first half, the Orange reeled off four triples, extending the first half lead to 26, when SU's Tyus Battle connected on a one-handed three point shot as the shot clock expired with 33 seconds on the clock. Dajuan Coleman closed out the first half scoring with a dunk at the eight second mark to send the game into the break at 52-24.

Turnovers plagued EMU through the first half, as the Orange forced Eastern into 12 first half turnovers, posting 16 points off of those miscues. Offensively, Syracuse was dominant in the opening frame, shooting 59.4 percent from the floor, while connecting on eight triples in 14 attempts, good for a 57.1 percentage. Despite forcing Cuse into eight first half turnovers, EMU was unable to convert, grabbing just four points off of the flip flops.

The second half was much of the same, as the Orange opened up the half with an 18-7 run in the first six minutes of action, taking a 39-point, 70-31, lead with 13:58 left in the game. Syracuse continued its dominant offensive attack, extending the advantage to as many as 48, which is where the final tally of 105-57 remained.

Eastern returns to action Thursday, Dec. 22, when it squares off with Marygrove at the Convocation Center. Game time is slated for 2 p.m. Thursday afternoon.
