YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) –
Winning nearly every event, the Eastern Michigan University women's swimming and diving team used its depth to soar past the University of Toledo, 138-110, at home, Saturday afternoon, Nov. 5. The Eagles pushed their dual record to 3-0 on the season and extended their Mid-American Conference dual win streak to eight.

EMU opened the afternoon with a win in the 200 Medley Relay to remain perfect in the event this season. Freshman Claire Young (Grosse Pointe Farms, Mich.-Grosse Point South) teamed up with sophomore Delaney Duncan (Galesburg, Ill.-Galesburg) and seniors Alexis Mitcheltree (Moon Twp., Pa.-Moon Area) and Sierra Wagner (Huntsville, Texas-Huntsville). Together, the foursome clocked in more than two seconds ahead of the runner-up to win the race.

Paced by a trio of season-bests, the Eagles used a sweep of the 1000 freestyle to gain an early lead on the Rockets. Sophomore Nicole Swartz (Dayton, Ohio-Centerville) led the way, touching in with a season-best time of 10:15.12, while senior Abby Aumiller (Canton, Mich.-Salem) and sophomore Rebecca Winnert (Buffalo N.Y.-Williamsville) rounded out the top-three. Aumiller claimed second with a time of 10:47.34, clocking in nearly 20 seconds faster than her previous season-best. Meanwhile, Winnert finished the race in 10:51.82 to take third.

Senior Mary Grace Van Allen (Indianapolis, Ind.-North Central) picked up nine points in the 200 free, winning the event with a season-best time of 1:51.31. Van Allen was one of five Eagles to finish inside the top-six for the event, including a third-place finish by junior Sarah Dombkowski (Canton, Mich.-Plymouth). Dombkowski clocked in with a season-best time of 1:55.26 in her first 200 free race of the season.

Youth led the way for the Green and White in the 100 backstroke, as four underclassmen claimed the top-four spots. Young led the way, taking first with a career-best time of 56.37. Sophomore Michal Liberman (Rosh Haayin, Israel-Begin) finished just behind Young with her fastest race of the season, while freshman Casey Gavigan (East Setauket, N.Y.-Ward Melville) also turned in a career-best time of 57.90 en route to a third-place finish.

In the 100 breaststroke, senior Genna Worthley (Portland, Maine-Deering) posted her first win of the season. Shaving off nearly a second from her previous season-best, Worthley touched in with a time of 1:04.53 to best the field. Meanwhile, senior Emily Wimmer (Hammond, Ind.-Munster) also clocked in with a season-best time and finished second. Wimmer's second-place mark gave the Eagles their third consecutive 1-2 sweep of the event this season.

Freshman Kylie Sutherlin fueled the Eagles to a win in the 200 butterfly, claiming her first collegiate win. Touching in with a career-best time of 2:08.47, Sutherlin led the way for another 1-2 finish for Eastern Michigan. Finishing the race on the heels of Sutherlin, senior Makenzie Garringer (Napoleon, Ohio-Napoleon) nabbed a second-place finish with a season-best time of 2:08.64.

In the final race before the diving break, EMU cruised to a sweep of the top-four spots in the 50 free behind a group of talented veterans. Returning to the pool for the first time since leading the Eagles to a dual-opening win in the 200 Medley Relay, Wagner touched in with a season-best time of 23.93 to win the race. Mitcheltree claimed second after clocking in with a season-best time of 24.58, while junior Chase Walker (Virginia Beach, Va.-Landstown) rounded out the top-three with a time of 24.59.

Eastern's diving core competed against one another during the break in exhibition action. Junior Alli Shereda (Fraser, Mich.-Fraser) posted the top scores in both events to pace the Green and White.

Out of the diving break, Wagner gave the Eagles another victory, besting the field in the 100 free for her second win of the day with a season-best time of 52.50.

After the Rockets broke through for their first win of the day in the 200 backstroke, Worthley bounced back with her second win of the meet in the 200 breast. Clocking in with a time of 2:21.86, Worthley led the field by nearly four seconds, giving the Eagles their third consecutive sweep of the breaststroke events.

With the meet well in-hand, the Eagles elected to defer points, ultimately coming away with a 138-110 win. The victory pushed Eastern's MAC dual win streak to eight and improved EMU's overall record this season to 3-0.

Eastern Michigan returns to action next weekend, Nov. 11, against Oakland University in Rochester, Mich. The dual is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
