James Thompson IV Named MAC West Player of the Week

This marks the second time that Thompson has earned the weekly conference honor

CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University men's basketball sophomore James Thompson IV (Baton Rouge, La.-Parkview Baptist) led the EMU men's basketball team to a 2-0 record  last week on his way to being named the Mid-American Conference West Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday, Nov. 28. It is the second time that Thompson has earned the award in his career and first for the 2016-17 campaign.

Thompson posted his fourth and fifth double-doubles of the year to lead the Eagles (4-3) to a perfect 2-0 week, on their way to earning their first winning record of the 2016-17 campaign. In the Eagles 97-60 victory over Madonna, Nov. 23, the 6-foot-10 forward went for 24 points and 10 rebounds, while posting 21 points and 11 rebounds in the Green and White's 94-77 win versus Omaha, Nov. 26. In total, the Baton Rouge, La. native averaged 22.5 points, 10.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists, 1.5 blocks and 0.5 steals per contest. Additionally, he shot 70.8 percent (17-of-24) from the floor, while connecting on 91.7 percent (11-of-12) of his free throw attempts.

Eastern now heads on the road for an in-state contest when the Eagles flock to Detroit, Mich. for a game with University of Detroit Mercy.  Tip-off from Calihan Hall is set for 7 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 30.
