Men's Golf Continues Impressive Fall at Irish Gridiron Golf Classic

NOTRE DAME, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) – Senior Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) continued his sensational play with a final round 67 to finish in a tie for sixth-place at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Golf Classic, Oct. 11. For Rodes, it was his third consecutive top-10 showing this fall, as he finished with a three-day mark of 210 (68-75-67). The 54-hole mark was one shy of his career low set just last week at the Firestone Invitational, Oct. 3-4.
The Eagles continued their torrid pace, as the squad moved to 48-11 this season in head-to-head matchups. After holding down the top-spot on the leaderboard after the first day of competition, Eastern Michigan finished in fourth-place overall with a three-round score of 851(280 -289-282). UTEP (835) held off a hard-charging Notre Dame team (836) by one shot to win the tournament. Ball State (849) edged Eastern Michigan by two strokes to take third in the field of 15 teams. Illinois State (854) rounded out the top five.
Sophomore Beau Breault (Howell, Mich.-Hartland) and senior Joey Kremer (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Senator O'Connor) tied for 15th with identical final day scores of 71 for a total of 212. Notre Dame's Blake Barens held onto his overnight lead in the race for individual medalist honors, winning the tournament by one shot over UTEP's Frederik Dreier at nine-under.
Redshirt senior Jared Multer (Battle Creek, Mich.-Lakeview-Grand Rapids C.C.) posted a 218 (73-71-74) and junior Nic Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada-Highland Secondary) had a 224 (74-77-73) in a tie for 67th.
Head Coach Bruce Cunningham's team wraps up the fall portion of the schedule, Oct. 17-18, at the at Georgetown Intercollegiate in Beallsville, Md.
