EMU Finishes Up the Wildcat Invitational

EMU went 2-2 in doubles play and 2-3 in singles action
EVANSTON, Ill. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Eastern Michigan University tennis team completed the second weekend of the 2015-16 campaign when it finished up day three of the 2015 Wildcat Invitational, hosted by Northwestern University Sunday, Sept. 27. The Eagles came away from the final day of competition posting a pair of singles victories, along with two doubles wins.
In doubles play, the Green and White's No. 1 duo of Andrea Martinovska and Klara Supejova combined for a pair of victories. First the Czech Republic natives knocked off Pittsburgh's Callie Frey and Clara Lucas by a 6-1 margin, prior to a 6-3 win against the DePaul duo of Zaina Sufi and Milica Tesic. EMU sophomores Renu Sharma and Anna Veleva had a negative outcome against Sufi and Tesic, falling 6-0 before running into an LSU squad of Ryann Foster and Skylar Holloway. Sharma and Veleva dropped a 6-1 decision to the Tigers' doubles team.
Supejova and Veleva added the only Eagle wins in the singles play as Supejova defeated Audrey Ann Blakely from Pittsburgh, 6-2, 3-6, 6-3, while Veleva knocked off Illinois-Chicago's Bianca Zuzu, 6-3, 6-4.
Two members of the EMU tennis squad continue the fall season next weekend, Oct. 3, when Martinovska and Supejova travel to Malibu, Calif. to compete in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's All-American Championships. They are just one of five doubles team from the Midwest Region that has been selected to compete in the event.
