Stephanie Polan and Colleen Kolis will serve as student coaches in 2016

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – With fall ball underway for the Eastern Michigan University softball team, Head Coach Melissa Gentile announced the hiring of volunteer assistant coach, Kristine Dolunt for the 2016 season, Wednesday, Sept. 23. Gentile also noted that Stephanie Plona and Colleen Kolis will round out the coaching staff in student coaching roles.

Dolunt joins the EMU staff following a two year stint at Ferris State University. While serving as an assistant coach for the Bulldogs, Dolunt worked primarily with the outfielders and slappers. Working alongside head coach Sarah Rotta, the Allen Park, Mich. native helped produce two All-Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletics Conference selections.

Prior to her time at Ferris State, Dolunt coached at her alma mater, University of Michigan-Dearborn for two years.  Working with outfielders and slappers, Dolunt also assisted with academic oversight and recruiting.

In her playing days, Dolunt was a three-year fixture in the outfield for the Wolverines. A two-time team captain, Dolunt's defensive abilities were highlighted by a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage for the 2009 season. Dolunt is a three-time recipient of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Champions of Character Award, an honor given to the player that best exemplifies the five core values of National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).

Plona joins the EMU coaching staff after with several years of coaching experience, serving as assistant coach for the USSSA Pride 10U Stars, Plymouth High School, and Divine Child High School. Most recently, Plona held the head coaching post at Wayne Memorial High School. While holding her position on Gentile's staff, Plona will work toward her master's degree at Eastern Michigan.

Kolis rounds out Gentile's staff for the 2016 campaign, returning to the team for her third season as a student coach. Prior to joining the Eagles, Kolis spent two years coaching the freshmen softball team at Walled Lake Northern High School. Enrolled in the M.B.A. program at Eastern Michigan, Kolis is set to earn her degree with a specialization in Sport Management at the end of the 2016 season.
