Men's Golf to Open Season at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic

NOTRE DAME, Ind. (EMUEagles.com) — The Eastern Michigan University men's golf team gets its fall season underway Monday, Sept. 21, at the Fighting Irish Gridiron Classic on the Warren Golf Course in Notre Dame, Ind. The first and second rounds will be played on Monday with the final round to be held Tuesday, Sept. 22.
The Warren Golf Course is a par 71 and plays at 7,023 yards. This season's tournament will mark the 10th-annual Fighting Irish Gridiron Golf Classic. Last season, Michigan Sate won the event for a third time (2007 and 2012), while Ball State's McCormick Clouser took home the individual title.
The 12 teams competing in this year's Gridiron Classic are Ball State, Dartmouth, DePaul, Eastern Michigan, Loyola (Md.), Notre Dame, St. Mary's (Calif.), Utah State, William & Mary, Wisconsin, Wofford and Xavier.
Competing for EMU in the tournament will be senior Brett White (Caledonia, Mich.-East Kentwood), sophomore Nic Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada-Highland Secondary), junior Philippe Weppernig (Lucerne, Switzerland-Kantonsschule Alpenquai Luzern-Owens C.C.), junior Joey Kremer (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Senator O'Connor) and junior Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth). Freshman Beau Breault (Howell, Mich.-Hartland) will get his first taste of collegiate golf as he competes as an individual.
EMU last took part in the event during the 2013-14 season when the team took eighth place with a 54-hole total of 883 (295-300-288). Stuart Grehan fired a two-under par 69 in the final round to finish in 16th place with a two-day total of 216 (71-76-69).
