Men's track and field sees 13 personal bests

TOLEDO, Ohio (EMUEagles.com)—Eastern Michigan University's men's track and field had a promising performance in the final meet leading up to the Mid-American Conference Championships with a total of 13 personal-best marks at the Toledo Invitational, May 8.
On the track, Pedro Delgado (Southfield, Mich.-Brother Rice) led the Green and White in both the 100m and 200m with a pair of career marks. The senior punched his ticket to the MAC Championships in the 100m, finishing runner-up in 10.60 seconds before another second-place performance in the 200m in 21.73 seconds. Also competing in the events and notching career-best marks in both events were Wayne Blanchard (Toledo, Ohio-St. Francis de Sales) and Nick James (Troy, Ohio-Troy). Blanchard finished third in the 100m in 10.83 seconds and fourth in the 200m in 22.02 seconds, while James was fourth in the 100m after clocking a 10.92 and took seventh in the 200m in 22.21 seconds.
Taking a break from his usual 800m run, Scott Bradley (Battle Creek, Mich.-Lakeview) grabbed third in the 400m dash in 50.22 seconds. Running for the Eagles in the 800m was Tom Jozwiak (Southgate, Mich.-Thomas J. Anderson), placing sixth in 2:01.02.
The Eagles had two individual wins on the track. In the 110m hurdles, Bryce Lindsey (New Middletown, Ohio-Fairfield Senior) claimed victory in 14.70 seconds and went on to set a personal best of 54.31 seconds in the 400m hurdles to finish third. The final victor was Hlynur Andresson (Vestmannaeyjar, Iceland-Mountain Ridge (Alderson Broaddus)) in his collegiate debut of the 3000m steeplechase, winning in 9:25.12 while Caleb Hess (Owosso, Mich.-Owosso) took the runner-up spot in 10:08.13.
Chris Fischre (East Lansing, Mich.-East Lansing) had a superb performance in the triple jump, adding nearly three feet to his personal record to finish third with a mark of 14.32 meters/46 feet 11.75-inches, as he just missed out on the MAC automatic qualifying mark by a mere centimeter. Also notching a personal record in the field events were Levi Selvig (Flushing, Mich.-Flushing Community) and Elijah Albert-Grayer (Canton, Mich.-Salem). Selvig threw 41.96 meters/137 feet 8.25-inches, an improvement of more than 10 feet, in the discus throw to finish 12th, and also took third in the pole vault with with a clearance of 4.52 meters/14 feet 10-inches while Dylan Stites (Huntsville, Ohio-Indian Lake) recorded the same height and took fourth. Albert-Grayer had a throw of 48.94 meters/160 feet 7-inches in the hammer throw to place ninth, and was preceded by Andrew Wentz (Napoleon, Ohio-Napoleon)'s throw of 51.36 meters/168 feet 6-inches for eighth.
The remaining two events saw James O'Shea (Toledo, Ohio-St. John's Jesuit) and Quinn Levering (Caledonia, Ohio-River Valley) compete in the high jump and shot put, respectively. O'Shea had a third-place effort with a jump of 1.93 meters/6 feet 4-inches, and Levering threw 15.91 meters/52 feet 2.50-inches to finish 11th.
The culmination of the 2015 outdoor season is quickly approaching, as the Eagles will head to Muncie, Ind. next weekend for the 2015 Outdoor MAC Championships. Competition will kick off Thursday, May 14 and will run through Saturday, May 16.
