Freshman finishes ninth in the triple jump at the NCAA East Regional
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (EMUEagles.com)—Eastern Michigan University's women's track and field team wrapped up the final day of the NCAA East Regional, qualifying one more Eagle to the NCAA Championships on June 10-13.
Freshman Dace Dreimane (Ventspils, Latvia-Ventspils Gymnasium No. 1) had a performance not far off her personal best set at the 2015 Mid-American Conference Championships. Also competing were another pair of field athletes as well as distance runner Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich.-Davison). McDermitt just missed out on a bid in the 5000m run, finishing 16th in 16:22.90. In the field events, Kate Wolanin (Oxford, Mich.-Oxford) closed out her EMU career in the high jump, clearing 1.75 meters/5 feet 8.75-inches to finish 22nd overall. Freshman Helga Volgyi (Szombathely, Hungary-Savaria Technical College) capped off her debut campaign for the Green and White, placing 31st in the hammer throw with a launch of 54.33 meters/178 feet 3-inches.
