EUGENE, Ore. (EMUEagles.com)—Eastern Michigan University's women's track and field team saw a strong performance from senior Sarah Chauchard (Montpellier, France-University of Montpellier) in the first day of the heptathlon. Chauchard currently sits in 15th in a star-studded field with 3,434 points. The tally is nearly 60 points ahead of the pace she set on the first day of the Mid-American Conference Championships when she recorded her personal best of 5,667 points.
Chauchard started the day off with a career performance in the 100m hurdles, dipping below the 14-second mark for the first time in her career to take 14th in 13.88 seconds. Not only is the time a personal best for the senior, but it is the 10th-fastest time in EMU history and the fastest performance since the 2006 campaign when Chrystal Dooley clocked in at 13.50 seconds. Chauchard went on to match her career best in the high jump, tying for 11th with a clearance of 1.69 meters/5 feet 6.50-inches. Going into the shot put, Chauchard notched her only top-10 finish of the day, throwing 12.85 meters/42 feet 2.25-inches for seventh. The Montpellier, France native closed out her first day with another personal record, crossing the line in 25.09 seconds in the 200m dash for 19th overall.
The heptathlon will conclude tomorrow with the long jump, javelin throw, and 800m run. The long jump is schedule for a noon start time, followed by the javelin at 1:15 p.m. and the 800m at 4:28 p.m. All times listed are in Pacific Time.
The 2015 NCAA Division I Outdoor Track and Field Championships will have select segments broadcast live on TV through ESPN, ESPN2, and ESPNU, while live streams can be found online through ESPN3 and WatchESPN. Live results for the meet will be provided through ncaa.com.
