Junior Krista Burdick became just the fifth Eagle in rowing history to earn the distinction
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- The Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) announced that Eastern Michigan University junior Krista Burdick was named to the 2015 Division I All-Central Region Second Team Friday, May 29.
The honor marks the first of Burdick's career and the fifth time in program history an Eagle rower has earned a spot on the all-region second team. The Ypsilanti, Mich. native is the first EMU rower to garner the award since KC Anderson earned the honor following the 2013 season. Prior to Anderson, Janelle Mitchell earned the distinction in 2010, while Sarah Allison nabbed second team honors in 2008 and Katie Larder was the first EMU rower to be named to the team in 2007.
In order to be selected to an all-region team, student-athletes are evaluated on the strength of their team's regional finish, coaches' recommendations and 2,000-meter erg scores. Nominees must be eligible student-athletes who have competed in their team's varsity boat in 75 percent of races this season.
The junior rower competed in all five spring regattas for EMU in the Varsity Eight boat. She helped lead Eastern to three first-day victories at the Lubbers Cup before earning a second-place finish in the finale with a time of 6:57.80. Burdick also led the V8 squad to just the third-ever Harvey Cup in program history, crossing the line in 6:52.53 against Buffalo. Finally, Burdick capped off her junior season helping the Varsity Eight boat to a fourth-place finish at the Colonial Athletic Association Championships. The place marked a program-best finish for the Green and White, allowing Burdick to take home All-CAA honors for the second-straight season.
