Eagles Close Out Tennessee Relays

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (EMUEagles.com)—Eastern Michigan University's men's track and field team wrapped up a successful weekend at the Tennessee Relays Powered by Sea Ray Saturday, April 11. The Eagles competed in three relays along with five individual events.

Continuing his dominant senior season, Donald Scott (Apopka, Fla.-Apopka) claimed another title in the triple jump, winning by nearly two feet with a jump of 16.10 meters/52 feet 10-inches. Also competing on the field was James O'Shea (Toledo, Ohio-St. Johns Jesuit) in the high jump and a trio of Eagles in the javelin throw. O'Shea placed ninth overall after clearing 2.01 meters/6 feet 7-inches. Solomon Ijah (Murrieta, Calif.-Murrieta Valley) led the way for the Green and White in the javelin throw with a toss of 60.11 meters/197 feet 2-inches for 12th, while Elijah Albert-Grayer (Canton, Mich.-Salem) placed 15^th at 50.94 meters/167 feet 1-inch and Sean Ward (Clarkston, Mont.-Billings Central) improved on his mark from two weeks ago to take 17^th with a throw of 49.43 meters/162 feet 2-inches.

On the track, Cameron Bolton (Missouri City, Texas-Hightower) competed in the invitational section of the 200m dash, finishing fifth in 21.44 seconds. The Eagles also saw a fifth-place performance out of Steve Hammond (Warsaw, Ohio-River View (Wingate)), who shaved time in the 3000m steeplechase to cross the line in 9:21.55.

The Green and White had strong performances in the relays, claiming two runner-up finishes in the 4x100m and 4x400m while the 4x800m relay finished fourth. Eastern dropped a heartbreaker in the 4x100m relay, taking second to Tiffin by a mere hundredth of a second after Kevin Snead (Richmond, Va.-George Wythe (Pima CC), Bolton, Brandon Bolden (Solon, Ohio-Solon), and Jeff Elam (Latrobe, Pa.-Greater Latrobe Senior) clocked in at 40.36 seconds. The mark just missed out on EMU's all-time top-10 list, going down as the 11^th-fastest time in program laurels.

The Eagles also fell in a close race to Mid-American Conference rival Kent State in the 4x400m relay, with Matthew Williams (Moreno Valley, Calif.-Vista del Lago), Elam, Mark Cook (Edison, N.J.-John P. Stevens), and Jason Ervin (Farmington Hills, Mich.-Farmington) combining for a time of 3:09.53. Ijah, along with Levi Selvig (Flushing, Mich.-Flushing Community), Bryce Lindsey (New Middletown, Ohio-Fairmont Senior), and Nick James (Troy, Ohio-Troy) also competed in the event, placing 10^th in 3:18.54.

In the 4x800m relay, the quartet of Scott Bradley (Battle Creek, Mich.-Lakeview), Stephen Sparks (Lancaster, Ohio-Lancaster), Mitch Lenneman (River Falls, Wis.-River Falls), and Caleb Hess (Owosso, Mich.-Owosso) teamed up to take fourth, finishing in 7:45.31.

The Eagles will head East once more next weekend when they travel to Charlottesville, Va. for the Virginia Challenge. The meet will run Friday and Saturday, April 17-18.
