YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- After heading to The Golden State for three matches, the Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team returns to the wintery weather of Michigan for a doubleheader of dual matches at the Chippewa Racquet Club, March 7. The Eagles (2-9) will square off with the University of Illinois-Chicago at 1 p.m. before welcoming the Golden Grizzlies of Oakland University to Ypsilanti for an 8:30 p.m. contest Saturday night.
The Green and White will be taking the court against Illinois-Chicago for the 13th time as EMU holds a 7-5 advantage in the all-time series. The last time the two squads squared off was during the 2011 spring season. Eastern traveled to the Windy City and won just two matches throughout the dual, falling 6-1. Miriam Westerink defeated UIC's Teona Tsertsvadze, 6-4, 6-2, while Celine Donnet and Georgia de'Lisle-Tarr teamed up to knock off the Flames' No. 3 doubles squad, 9-7.
Following their match with Illinois-Chicago, the Eagles will take a quick break before meeting up with Oakland for the seventh time in the program's history. Eastern Michigan is undefeated against the Golden Grizzlies, including a 5-2 victory at the Chippewa Club in their last matchup, Jan. 25, 2014. The Eagles swept the doubles round with two 6-1 decisions and a 6-2 final to earn the first point of the match before taking the top-four singles matches to secure the 5-2 final.
