The Eastern Michigan University softball team fell in the Mid-American Conference series finale, 9-4, to the RedHawks of Miami University Sunday, March 29.

The Eagles (8-18, 0-2 MAC) notched four runs on nine hits, including multi-hit games from Abby Davidson and Taylor Wagner, who had two hits apiece for the Green and White. Seniors Jenn Lucas an Lindsay Rich also saw success at the plate, driving in all four of the Eagles' run with two RBI apiece, including a two-run homer from Lucas, while Wagner touched home on two separate occasions.

In the circle, Rich (6-12) suffered the loss, pitching 1.2 innings, while Alyssa Huntley came on in relief to throw 1.2 innings and Abbie Minsker closed out the game with 3.2 innings of scoreless softball, allowing just one hit and fanning three.

For the RedHawks (18-11, 2-0 MAC), Kat Lee went 1-for-4 at the plate with two RBI, awhile Tanya Busby notched a team-best three hits at the plate while both Tiyona Marshall and Taylor Shuey had two hits for MU. Miami's Amber Logemann earned the victory for the RedHawks, pitching four innings in relief of starter Remy Edwards. Logemann allowed just two hits in four innings, while Edwards gave up seven hits and four earned runs.

Miami got its bats going early when Tiyona Marshall led off with a triple off the left center field fence and came in to score on a single just to the left of the shortstop. The RedHawks used an Eagle error and a single to left center to load the bases before a second EMU error allowed two runs to score with only one out. With bases loaded, a hit to second notched a fourth run for MU, while a putout to third base recorded the final out of the inning for the Green and White.

The Eagles lit up the scoreboard in the bottom half of the inning when Lucas blasted a solo home run over the left center field fence, but Miami recorded the final two outs it needed before EMU was able to push any more runs across the plate.

The RedHawks extended their lead to 5-1 in the top of the second inning when a hard-hit single to third base came from Busby would come around to score on a sacrifice bunt and a shallow single to left field. Two-straight singles and a hit batter juiced the bases for Miami before a single up the middle allowed MU to go up 6-1 over the Eagles and forced Head Coach Melissa Gentile to bring Huntley on in relief of Rich. Miami used one final single to take the 7- 1 lead, but Huntley came up with a big bases loaded strikeout to close out the inning for Eastern before any further damage was done.

The Eagles rallied with two outs in the bottom of the second inning when they loaded the bases with two singles and a walk. Edwards was unable to notch the out as Lucas stepped in and drew a bases loaded walk to bring EMU within five, 7-2.

Huntley struggled to start the third inning hitting two batters and walking one, which would allow Miami to take an 8-2 lead over the Green and White with only one out in the inning, but the EMU defense quickly picked up its pitcher using a double play to get out the inning.

With two outs, Wagner single through the left side of the field to put a runner on for Rich, who blasted a two-run homer over the center field fence and allowed EMU to trail Miami by just four, 8-4. The Eagles' rally continued when Davidson drove the Green and White's second single of the inning through the left side of the field, but a long hit fly ball closed out the inning before EMU was able to push any other runs across the plate.

Miami used two hits and one walk to score one run in the top of the fourth inning to extend its lead to 9-4 heading into the bottom half of the inning.

The Eagles shut down the RedHawks in the final three innings, in large part due to the relief pitching of Minsker who tossed 3.2 innings, giving up just one hit. The Green and White were unable to push any runs across the plate in the final half inning, falling to Miami, 9-4.

The Green and White will be back in action Wednesday, April 1 when it heads to South Bend, Ind. for a single non-conference game against Notre Dame. First pitch from Melissa Cook Stadium is slated for 4 p.m.
