LONG BEACH, Calif. (EMUEagles.com) – Behind a second round 70 by junior Brett White (Caledonia, Mich.-East Kentwood), the Eastern Michigan University men's golf team resides in fifth place at the 19th Annual Del Walker Intercollegiate. The Eagles carded an opening day score of 570 (281-289) while UC Irvine holds down the top spot with a 36-hole tally of 561 (272-289) on the par-70, 6,633-yard Virginia Country Club.
White finished the day in a tie for seven-place at 141 (71-70) and is nine strokes short of the individual leader, Pete Fernandez of UC Irvine, who finished the day eight-under par132 (63-69). Sophomore Kyle Rodes (Plymouth, Mich.-Plymouth) is just a shot back in 12th following a 142 (68-74). Senior Michael Blair (Ancaster, Ontario, Canada-Nelson-Pfeiffer) posted rounds of 70 and 73 for 20th-place with a 143.
Rounding out the lineup, junior Jared Multer (Battle Creek, Mich.-Lakeview-Grand Rapids C.C.) and freshman Nicholas Ross (Dundas, Ontario, Canada-Highland Secondary) turned in scores of 144 and 150, respectively. Playing as an individual, sophomore Joey Kremer (Toronto, Ontario, Canada-Senator O'Connor) managed a 149 (79-70) for 51st-place.
Eastern Michigan will complete play at the Del Walker Intercollegiate with one final round of 18 holes on Tuesday.
