EMU finished with program best finishes in all the events
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn (EMUEagles.com) - The Eastern Michigan University rowing team completed its 2015 fall season with a highly successful day at the Head of the Hooch regatta in Chattanooga, Tenn, Nov. 7-8. The Eagles saw program best finishes in all five of the races it ran.
Leading off the first day of the Hooch, the EMU Women's Championship 8+ team crossed the line in 17:18.2, which was good for an 11th place finish out of 22 boats. The programs previous team high finish was 20th place. The team finished ahead of other A boats from Georgia Tech and Florida.
Next on the docket was the Novice 8+ in which EMU had two boats on the water out of a total of 49. The Novice A squad finished in a program best fourth place with a time of 17:55.6. The Novice B team crossed the line in 18th place 19:57.8 final time. The Novice teams beat out boats from Oklahoma, Old Dominion and Miami.
The third race of the day was the Championship 2x race. The boat of sophomore Lindsay Davis-Brady (Ann Arbor, Mich.-Skyline) and junior Caitlyn Maguire (Dayton, Ohio-Vandalia Butler) finished in fifth place with a time of 19:15.5. It was the best finish in program history in that race.
The final race on Saturday was the Championship 4+ which also had two EMU boats. The A and B boats finished back-to-back yet again this season with the A finishing 22nd with a time of 19:10.6, while the B finished with a time of 19:34.4. These were also program best finishes at the Head of the Hooch.
Lastly was the one and only race on Sunday, the Women's Open 8+. This race saw three EMU boats hit the water. The A boat finished with the best time of the day with a 17:00.1 time, good for 10th place. This was the programs best finish ever at the Hooch, and also saw them defeat the A boat from Miami. The B boat finished in 17th with a time of 17:50.5 and the C boat finished 22nd with a time of 20:14.2.
"It was a really successful weekend," Head Coach Kemp Savage said. "Having program best finishes in all events is really a testament to how hard the team has worked and how quickly the program is growing. This is a great way to end fall racing and start looking to sprint season."
This concludes the fall season portion of the 2015-16 schedule for the rowing team. The season picks back up on Saturday, Feb. 27 at the Alabama Regatta in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
