The Eagles raced three boats in 10 races
TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University rowing team opened the 2016 spring season with a dual meet versus the University of Alabama, Saturday, Feb. 27. The Eagles participated in 10 races with three different boats.
The Green and White did not win any of the ten races but Head Coach Kemp Savage was pleased with his team's performance against the stiff competition.
"It was great to be part of the first race of the collegiate season," Savage said. "The races with Alabama gave us a really good indication of our speed after a hard training week. There was really good progress in all three boats and we are looking forward to getting out on Ford Lake in the next couple of weeks."
EMU's best race came in the 2nd Frosh/Novice 8 race where the Eagles finished just three seconds behind one of Alabama's boats, clocking in at 3:45.0. EMU's best time came in the Varsity 8 race with a time of 3:11.2.
Eastern gets back to action later in the spring when it competes in the Lubbers Cup on Ford Lake near the campus of Grand Valley State University. The two-day event begins Saturday, April 9.
