YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- Eastern Michigan University's volleyball team continues the 2015 season this weekend when the Eagles (12-13, 4-8 MAC) hit the road for a pair of matches against Central Michigan University Thursday, Nov. 5, and Kent State University Saturday, Nov. 7. Eastern is attempting to pick up a pair of wins to keep its hopes of grabbing one of the coveted top-eight spots and advancing to the 2015 Mid-American Conference Volleyball Tournament.

The Green and White head to Mount Pleasant, Mich. tosquare off with the Chippewas (10-15, 5-7 MAC) in a Thursday night matchup at McGuirk Arena. The EMU vs. CMU match will be broadcast live on ESPN3 and begins at 7 p.m.

The Eagles will then flock to the Buckeye State Saturday for a contest with the extremely successful Golden Flashes (15-9, 9-3 MAC) at the M.A.C. Center in Kent, Ohio. Eastern will hit the court at 7 p.m. to square off with the currently third-seeded team out of the MAC East Division.

CHIP DIP: Central Michigan has been dominant in the series with EMU. The Eagles trail by a 25-54 margin with its opponent from Mount Pleasant, Mich., but have split their regular season matchups in each of the last four seasons. Last time out, the Green and White topped Central Michigan, 3-0, Oct. 1, at the Convocation Center, and look to sweep the Chips for the first time since the 2010 season

Central comes into the Thursday evening match sporting just a 10-15 overall record while going 5-7 in its first Mid-American Conference play. CMU's offense is led by Jordan Bueter at the net who averages 3.67 kills per set, while Kathia Sanchez posts 9.10 assists per frame ranks as the best for the Chippewas. Defensively, Angelique White leads Central with 1.03 blocks per game, sixth-best in the MAC, while Jamison Wolffis boasts 4.06 digs per set, good for 10th in the conference.

A FEEL FOR THE FLASHES: Kent State has never been able to sustain success against the Eagles. Overall, EMU leads  the all-time series with the Golden Flashes, 34-18-1, after splitting a pair of matches with their MAC East counterpart last season. Eastern Michigan got the best of KSU, 3-0, in the regular season, Sept. 27, 2014, but the Golden Flashes took down the Green and White in the opening round of the 2014 Mid-American Conference Tournament, 3-1, Nov. 21.

Kent State comes into the Saturday night contest with a 15-9, 9-3 MAC record. KSU is led by Kelsey Bittinger and Kelly Hutchison at the net, each average 2.67 kills per set, while Katarina Kojic's 10.29 assists per frame ranks as the second-best in the conference. Defensively, Bridget Wilhel leads Kent with 1.04 blocks per game, while Challen Geraghty boasts 5.40 digs per set, the top mark in the conference.

CHASING 2,000: Senior libero Corynne Smith has put together an extremely successful career at Eastern Michigan. Smith is already third on the all-time digs list. Smith has recorded 1,983 digs for her career. If she can grab 17 more this year, the Norwalk, Ohio native will become just the third student-athlete in EMU histroy to record 2,000 digs.

AMONG THE EMU BLOCKING ELITE: A pair of EMU senior middle blockers have seen their numbers rise the charts of the all-time block assists leaders in Eastern Michigan volleyball history during their careers. Kelsey Jones and Katie Krasowski are currently ranked in the top-15 in EMU history for block assists. Krasowski has 214, putting her at 13th all-time, while Jones' 209 ties her for 15th in Eastern Michigan laurels.

ONE OF THE ALL-TIME GREATS: It comes as no surprise following her successful career at EMU, that senior Corynne Smith will go down as one of the best to pass through EMU, including her playing time. With 449 sets played, Smith is currently ninth all-time.

ACING THE COMPETITION: Senior outside hitter Stacey Perinar has been an extremely effective offensive weapon for the Eagles and it hasn't been solely at the net. The Channahon, Ill. native has recorded 76 aces in her career, which is just one away from joining the top-15 list of all-time at Eastern Michigan.

JOCKEYING FOR POSITION: Currently, the EMU volleyball team is on the outside looking into the 2015 Mid-American Conference Volleyball Tournament. With a 4-8 conference record, the Eagles hold the ninth-best record in the MAC. However, with four matches remaining Ball State, Buffalo and Central Michigan are each in striking distance of the Eagles for a top-eight spot in the MAC. Current seedings are below:

    1. Northern Illinois
    2. Ohio
    3. Kent State
    4. Miami
    5. Western Michigan
    6. Ball State
    7. Buffalo
    8. Central Michigan

THE EAGLES ON ESPN3: The Eastern Michigan volleyball team will again appear on ESPN3 this weekend when the Eagles travel to Mount Pleasant, Mich. to square off with Central Michigan. It will be the third time this season that the Green and White will take the court while being aired on the Worldwide Leader in Sports streaming service.
