The Green and White close out the home season with a 3-5 record at the Convocation Center

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – Closing out the home portion of its 2015 schedule, the Eastern Michigan University volleyball team faded in a 3-1 loss to Mid-American Conference foe, Western Michigan, Saturday, Oct. 31. Seniors Corynne Smith (Norwalk, Ohio-St. Paul) and Katie Krasowski (Oak Lawn, Ill.-Marist) led the Eagles in the loss. Smith tallied a match-high 27 digs while Krasowski registered eight kills while boasting a match-best .389 clip.

Senior Kelsey Jones (Reed City, Mich.-Reed City) paced the Eagles in the first set, tallying four kills and two blocks to lead the Eagles to a 25-15 win. In a set in which the Eagles hit a .286 clip, Krasowski added four kills and a block. Smith anchored the defense, helping the Eagles to an impressive 80 percent sideout percentage, with a set-high nine digs.

The second set fell in favor of the Broncos, 25-22, as the Eagles struggled to find consistency on attack. Despite holding WMU to a .111 attack percentage in the frame, the Green and White hit just .041 themselves. Smith and senior Dori Harrison (Euclid, Ohio-Beaumont School) combined for nearly half of the Eagles digs in the set, recording six a piece.

Set three featured the tightest of the match, as the teams played through nine ties and five lead changes. Overcoming hitting woes, the Eagles pulled within one late, 22-21, but Western Michigan closed out the set with three straight points to take a 2-1 lead in the match. Smith registered a set-high eight digs while senior Stacey Perinar (Channahon, Ill.-Minooka) added a team-best four kills.

Playing with hopes of forcing a fifth set, the Eagles tied the set three times but could not overcome the Broncos early lead as Western Michigan took the final set, 25-19. The fourth set win ended the match, 3-1, in favor of the visitors. Jones led the Eagles with four kills while Perinar added five digs in the set.

With Saturday's match closing out the Eagles' home schedule, the Green and White honored six seniors prior to the match. Playing their last match in the Convocation Center, Alyssa Davis, Dori Harrison, Kelsey Jones, Katie Krasowski, Stacey Perinar, and Corynne Smith were recognized for their contributions to the program during their EMU careers.

The Eagles close out the regular season on the road with a four-game road trip beginning Friday, Nov. 6, in Mount Pleasant, Mich. against Central Michigan. EMU's match with the Chippewas is slated for 7 p.m.
