CLEVELAND, Ohio (EMUEagles.com) – After her impressive performance propelled the Eastern Michigan University women's swimming & diving team to a 185-115 win over Miami, junior Alexis Mitcheltree (Moon Twp., Pa.-Moon Area) earned Mid-American Conference Swimmer of the Week honors, the conference announced Tuesday, Oct. 24. With the honor, Mitcheltree is the first EMU women's swimmer to earn the conference award this season.

The junior swimmer paced the Eagles, totaling 40 points on the way to EMU's season-opening win. Mitcheltree opened competition as the lead swimmer on the Eagles' first place 200 Medley Relay team, as the foursome touched in with a time of 1:43.61. Returning to the pool in the 100 Backstroke, Mitcheltree used an early lead to pave the way to another first place finish before doing the same in the 200 Back. In the 100 Back, Mitcheltree touched in with a time of 55.19, the third best time in program history and two tenths of a second off her career-best. Her day came to a close as part of the 400 Freestyle Relay team, where she swam the fastest split of the group on her way to passing her RedHawks counterpart to set the Eagles up for another first place finish.

Tuesday's conference award marks the first time Mitcheltree has earned the honor in her career. With the conference's announcement, Mitchteltree became the first EMU women's swimmer to garner the accolade since senior Clarice Daniel (Belcamp, Md.) did so, Feb. 16, 2014.

Mitcheltree and the Eagles continue the 2015-16 campaign on the road, Oct. 31, in Muncie, Ind. against MAC foe Ball State. Competition is slated to begin at 1 p.m.
