Eagles Prepare for Final Meet Before MAC Championships

The EMU women's cross country team is set to host the EMU Fall Classic
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — To close out their regular season, the Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team will play host to the annual EMU Fall Classic, Friday, Oct. 23, at Hudson Mills Metro Park in Dexter, Mich. The race will serve as the last opportunity for the team to practice in a true race environment before the post season.
Last weekend at the Pre-Nationals Invitational, Oct. 17, EMU managed to finish 24th as a team, upsetting No. 27 Texas in the process. Individually, the Eagles were led by sophomore Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. - Davison), who finished 45th with a time of 20:42.2. Junior Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan Russia - Lyceum #83) continued to impress as well, placing 81st in the talented field and crossed the finish line in 21:02.5. The next Green and White finisher was senior Sofie Gallein (Gits, Belgium - Univ. of Leuven), who ran to a 109th place finish with a time of 21:11.9. Freshman Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind. - Zionsville Community) was an integral part of the team as well, crossing the finish line in 21:34.5, taking 170th.
While many of the team's top harriers will be resting and preparing for the Mid-American Conference Championships, this race will give other runners an opportunity to compete. Head Coach Sue Parks described the event, saying "We are excited about hosting this meet. Most of our top runners will rest, but it will be a good opportunity for some who need a race to get out there and compete. Our focus is on being ready for the MAC Championship next week, so we are doing what we need to do to get everybody ready individually."
The race will be a 5,000-meter course, with the men set to begin at 4 p.m. while the women will start at 4:30 p.m.
