Louisville, Ky. (EMUEagles.com) — Paced by Jordann McDermitt (Davison, Mich. - Davison) and Alsu Bogdanova (Kazan Russia - Lyceum #83), the Eastern Michigan University women's cross country team finished 24th at the Pre-Nationals Invitational Saturday, Oct. 17, in Louisville, Ky. The team managed to defeat No. 27 Texas in the process, and placed three harriers in the top-150 runners.
McDermitt led the way, finishing 45th with a time of 20:42.2, 40 seconds behind the leader. Bogdanova also turned in a solid race, crossing the finish line in 81st with a time of 21:02.5. Nine seconds behind Bogdanova was Sofie Gallein (Gits, Belgium - Univ. of Leuven) in 109th, crossing the finish in 21:11.9. Sydney Meyers (Zionsville, Ind. - Zionsville Community) continued her excellent freshman season, as she placed 170th in 21:34.5. The final three finishers for the Eagles were Amy Frauhammer (Saline, Mich. - Saline), Danielle Bentzley (Birmingham, Mich. - Seaholm), and Lauren Pottschmidt (Granger, Ind. - Penn), finishing in 22:03.4, 22:44.4, and 23:26.1, respectively.
Head Coach Sue Parks thought that while the race could have gone better, there were also plenty of positives. When summing up the race, she stated "Today was an up and down day for us. We had some positives, but we didn't have that complete team race that we were looking for. With 45 teams competing, there is no margin for error and we didn't execute our race plan well. We were disappointed with our team finish but we'll take the positives and continue to work on the areas that need improving. I thought that Jordann McDermitt, Alsu Bogdanova, and Sydney Meyers all had strong races today."
The final regular season race for the Eagles is the annual EMU Fall Classic, Oct. 23, while the Mid-American Conference Championships will take place Oct. 31.
