Eastern put together its best non-conference turnout since joining the Mid-American Conference

YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) -- After completing its best non-conference season since joining the Mid-American Conference prior to the 1974-75 campaign, the Eastern Michigan University men's basketball team is poised to make a run at the 2015 MAC Championship. With an 11-2 mark, the Eagles have won the most non-conference contests since joining the MAC, including a victory over cross-county foe the University of Michigan, Dec. 9, and look to build on their success so far this year.

Currently, the Green and White lead the Mid-American Conference in scoring defense (56.9 ppg), field goal percentage defense (34.2 percent), three-point field goal percentage defense (28.5 percent), rebounding (41.4 rpg), blocked shots (5.5 bpg), steals (8.7 spg) and turnover margin (+4.0). Nationally, the Eagles are ranked fifth in the NCAA in field goal percentage defense, while their 41.4 rebounds per game come in at No. 11 in country. Eastern is 18th in scoring defense and turnover margin, while ranking 26th in blocks and 27th in steals per game.

As of the most recent voting (Dec. 29, 2014), Eastern Michigan is ranked 14th in the CollegeInsider.com Mid-Major Poll. The ranking is the best that EMU has earned since the inception of the mid-major poll. EMU's previous best was earlier this season when EMU came in ranked 18th.

The Eagles begin MAC play Wednesday, Jan. 7, when they host Ball State University for a 7 p.m. matchup at the Convocation Center. The first 100 fans through the gate will receive a free t-shirt courtesy of the men's basketball team.
