YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) --
The Eastern Michigan University rowing squad has been making renovations to Ford Lake over the last few months, which included a brand new boathouse and a docking network.

Exterior construction has finished on the rowing hub in Lakeside Park at Ford Lake and will be used as a boathouse for the Eagles as well as Saline High School. The renovations included an extension of the trail network that connect it to regional trails, a new pavilion, fishing docks, and lookouts over Ford Lake. The newly added fishing docks are ADA compliant and handicap accessible as Ypsilanti Township, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Eastern Michigan came together to renovate the park and build a beautiful new boathouse.

"The new boathouse will be a great home for EMU Rowing and the local rowing community," noted Head Coach Kemp Savage.  "Ford Lake is a spectacular rowing venue, and having a permanent home on the lake will really allow rowing to grow in Ypsilanti. Just like "The Factory" is for EMU football, the boathouse will also be a spectacular place to get to work for EMU rowing. We look forward to the gains that a great facility will offer us, in recruiting, practice time, and speed."

EMU and Saline will share a 6,000-square foot boathouse which will function as a meeting area for crew teams, provide public restrooms and serve as a storage facility for the squads. The boathouse will be open for team use in early March and a ribbon cutting ceremony will follow shortly after. For more information on the upcoming ribbon ceremony, stay tuned to EMUEagles.com.
