EMU dropped four-of-six singles matches in the loss
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) – The Eastern Michigan University women's tennis team dropped its second dual match in a row to start the 2015 spring campaign. The Eagles (0-2) were knocked off by the University of Detroit Saturday, Jan. 24, at the Chippewa Club.
The Eagles won the doubles point after Daphne Friedrichs and Alejandra Barcelo Almoyna defeated Nynke Van Der Goot and Anna Davydova, 6-2, at the No. 3-doubles spot, while Klara Supejova and Andrea Martinovska defeated Valeryia Kulikovskay and Sasha Ninova, 6-3, at the No. 1 spot, earning the doubles point.
In singles action, Supejova picked up the first Eagles point in singles play by knocking off Nionova, 6-3, 6-2, in the No. 1 spot, while Ani Gogvadze picked up a 6-4, 6-4 win at the No. 2 singles position. EMU however saw the remaining four student-athletes drop their respective singles matches, falling 4-3, to the Titans.
"Detroit has one of its best teams this year and we knew we would have to play well," remarked Head Coach Ryan Ray. "We made too many unforced errors and they were tougher in the end to win. We have a lot of work to do to get back on track."
Eastern continues the 2015 campaign Friday, Jan. 30, when it travels to Fort Wayne, Ind. to square off with IPFW at 1 p.m.
