Women's track and field will take on competitive opponents in six-way scored meet
YPSILANTI, Mich. (EMUEagles.com) — Eastern Michigan University's women's track and field team has its season well underway, but this weekend will serve as a good benchmark to see where the Eagles are stacked up against some of the nation's elite athletes. EMU will make the trip to South Bend, Ind. to compete in the Notre Dame Invitational Saturday, Jan. 24, competing against DePaul, Indiana State, Michigan State, host Notre Dame, and Purdue.
Though the regional and national rankings have not come out from the United States Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA), five of the six teams competing on Saturday were listed on the final poll for the 2013-14 season. Michigan State had the highest ranking at No. 19, followed by then-No. 22 Purdue, then-No-39 Indiana State, and then-No. 53 Notre Dame. EMU filled in at No. 62 at the close of the 2013-14 polls.
The meet will begin on the field, with a large group of athletes competing in the horizontal jumps at 9 a.m. Track events are slated to begin at noon, starting with the trial heats for the 60m hurdles. Women's events will be contested on the track first, followed by the men.
