Eastern Michigan Completes the 2014 Wildcat Invitational

EMU will return to competition, Oct. 16-18
EVANSTON, Ill. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University's tennis team completed its second tournament of the 2014-15 campaign Sunday, Sept. 28. The Eagles competed in the Wildcat Invitational, held by Northwestern University, Sept. 26-28, in Evanston Ill.
In singles, Ani Gogvadze and Klara Supejova were each able to complete the tournament with victories. Supejova defeated Michigan State's Athena Trouillot, 6-2, 6-0, in the Purple Flight, while Gogvadze came away with a 7-5, 6-2, decision, topping Western Michigan's Labina Petrovska in the Black Flight. Andrea Martinovska and Daphne Friedrichs each were on the wrong side of their matches in the Purple Flight, while Maria Paula Ribero and Alejandra Barcelo Almoyna both fell in their Black Flight singles contests.
The only two teams to take the court in doubles were the duos of Gogvadze/Ribero and Supejova/Martinovska. Gogvadze and Ribero defeated fellow Mid-American Conference doubles squad, Caroline Aleck and Yuriko Ono from WMU, 8-5, in the White Flight, while Supejova and Martinovska dropped an 8-1 decision to Edmée Morin-Kougoucheff and Kirsten Lewis from Kentucky.
"I believe we made some growth in how we compete in singles today," remarked Head Tennis Coach Ryan Ray. "We faced great opponents, and we showed better poise and confidence. We will have a few weeks now to work on many things as we prepare for the Midwest Regional."
The Eagles are off until the Intercollegiate Tennis Association's Midwest Regional, Oct. 16-18. The regional competition will take place in Urbana-Champaigne, Ill.
